Andrew Jenkins
Andrew Jenkins has been an important member of the LiLY community since the spring of 2011 when he joined LiLY’s corps of volunteers. He joined the Board later in 2011 and was Board President from 2014 through 2019.
Andrew moved to New York City and Morningside Heights in 1987 to attend Columbia Business School where he earned his MBA in 1988. Upon graduation and making NYC his home, Andrew’s desire to give back to the community began with his volunteer work at the Hartley House in Hell’s Kitchen for several years as a tutor to grade school students.
It wasn’t until much later that Andrew became involved with the elderly. Since 2007, as a parishioner at Blessed Sacrament Church on the Upper West Side, Andrew has been involved in the efforts of lay ministers to bring communion and the Sunday mass to elderly members of the parish who could not attend mass in person. In particular, Andrew has been leading the group that serves the 74th Street Residence, an assisted living residence. It was this experience, where Andrew became familiar with the plight of the very old in our culture. Thus, when he learned about what LiLY was doing in his own neighborhood, he says, “things clicked”. He wanted to be involved in the movement to help elders age in their own homes.
With a desire to help strengthen his own community, Andrew joined LiLY’s corps of volunteers nine years ago, visiting, assisting, and befriending elder neighbors in need. From that time until now Andrew has been a tireless supporter of LiLY’s community role in Morningside Heights and since 2017 in West Harlem. Though he stepped down off the board this past autumn, he continues to volunteer with seniors in the neighborhood. He has been an inspiration to others as he has demonstrated how New Yorkers can help to develop their immediate communities and how they can support a good neighbor policy.
Andrew has also been a member on the NYC Leadership Council for Ashley, a Maryland based drug and alcohol treatment and rehabilitation center that also offers a specialized program geared to teens. Ashley’s treatment center was founded in 1983 by Father Joseph Martin, a Catholic priest, recovering alcoholic, and pioneer in addiction treatment. Andrew was introduced to Father Martin in the early 1990s and has been a supporter of his and Ashley ever since. It’s New York City metro area efforts focus on raising awareness for Ashley’s work, never more important than in these times of growing drug and alcohol addiction in the nation.
Andrew has worked in financial services for almost four decades and has been a high yield bond analyst for the past twenty-four years. He is currently the Director of Research at Muzinich & Co., Inc. He has also served as the Treasurer on the Board of 390 Riverside Drive in Manhattan. For relaxation, Andrew enjoys a regular game of tennis.
His wife Ellen Cohen Jenkins is an industrial designer who has won numerous awards for her product, architectural and graphic designs. Ellen has provided LiLY with much design work over the years including the LiLY logo, marketing/support materials, newsletters, brochures and invitations. Their daughter is Tillie “Kat” Jenkins, a Style Concierge at Moda Operandi, Inc. in New York City.
